Harness the Power of Solar Energy

With the steady increase in power costs that we are all experiencing, together with a growing social awareness to source "greener" power alternatives, solar power is fast becoming a solution for many homes and businesses. At Good Day Electrical, we have been Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) certified Solar Installers since 2007. Our extensive experience includes the successful installation of hundreds of solar systems in homes, schools and businesses across the Northern Beaches, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs and Greater Sydney.

Solar power offers numerous benefits. Not only can it save you tens of thousands of dollars on your power bills over the life of the system, but it can also add value to your home and significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

Here at Good Day Electrical, we embrace the advancements in solar technology. We take advantage of sophisticated monitoring systems connected to the internet, which provide you with real-time performance data, status reports and automated alerts if any of the panels underperform. Additionally, consumption monitoring is available to help you track your power usage, especially during the early stages of your solar system design and sizing. It can also determine whether installing a battery for your solar system would be beneficial.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is solar right for me?

At Good Day Electrical, we believe that a personalised solar site inspection is crucial to tailor a solar system to your specific needs. During the inspection, our experts assess your roof space, ensure easy access to the roof and switchboard and check the suitability of your switchboard for solar power. We provide solutions to any foreseen issues, ensuring a seamless and customised installation process. Contact us today to schedule your solar site inspection and take the first step towards harnessing the power of solar energy.

How do I know what size solar system to install?

We understand that determining the right solar system for your needs involves various factors. During our visit and assessment, we take into account the following:

  • Your current power consumption and usage patterns
  • The physical location and orientation of your roof, considering any shading from trees or other structures
  • Your budgetary considerations
  • Your preference for including a battery system, either initially or in the future
  • Anticipated future power requirements, such as adding new appliances or systems to your home

By considering these factors, we can assist you in determining the most suitable solar solution for your home or business. Contact us today to schedule a visit and let our experts guide you towards a customised solar system that meets your specific needs.

Why should I use a reputable solar company as opposed to a lead generation marketing company?

Good Day Electrical team will complete the site inspection, design a system specifically for you, install your new system and be available for any problems that may arise in the future. We have been established since 1990 and have installed solar systems since 2007.

Companies offering a cheaper/budget option tend to carry out the installations as quickly and cheaply as possible but are often unavailable if you need them in years to come to support you if you experience a problem.

What is the difference between a string inverter and micro inverters?

Our preferred solar system installation includes the use of Enphase micro inverters. These inverters ensure that we can maximise the energy generated from your entire system as each panel produces power independently. The advantage of this is increased output for clients that may have some partial shade on their roof and it allows us to use multiple roof sections to position your panels in the optimum position. They also have safer "AC Wiring".

What brand of solar panels and inverters do you use?

We use only brands that are included on the SAA (Solar Accreditation Australia) approved list. These are brands that have been proven over time to be reliable and safe such as Trina panels and Enphase micro-inverters and SMA string inverters. However, we have access to many other panels and inverters should you require a specific brand.

What happens if I do not use all of the solar power that my system generates?

Solar power is fed into your home to power everything that is connected to mains power. If you do not use the solar power as it is generated, it is automatically fed out back to the national grid and your electricity retailer will pay you a "feed-in tariff" (as agreed by your Electricity Retailer). It is usually seen as a credit on your power bill.

What happens if my solar system does not produce enough electricity to cover my needs?

If you are consuming more power than the solar system is producing, you will automatically buy power from the grid via your chosen electricity retailer at contracted rates.

What Government rebates or financial support are offered in NSW?

The Federal Governments Solar Incentive Scheme and Cheaper Home Batteries Program are part of Australia's Renewable Energy Target. This means that when you install a solar system, a number of Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) or Small Scale Technology Certificates (STC's) are created.

These certificates are then purchased by Energy Companies as part of their Renewable Energy commitments. The value of these Certificates can vary and can either be deducted from the price of your system or sold via the Clean Energy Regulator's certificate Clearing House system.

Here at Good Day Electrical, we take the stress out of the rebates by offering you a RECS discount for your system up front and then claiming back the REC'S on your behalf after your system is fully installed and operational.

Do I need a new electricity meter for my solar system?

All solar systems require a digital meter. These bi-directional meters can monitor how much excess solar power you are sending to the grid as well as how much power you are buying from the grid (via your energy retailer).

It is possible that your electricity retailer has already installed a digital meter at your home or business, but if they have not they will need to do so once we have completed your installation (we will arrange all necessary paperwork to ensure that this happens in the easiest and fastest time possible).

All meter replacements are now the responsibility of your energy retailer.

Should I add a battery to my solar system?

If you are using more power than your solar system is generating, it would not be beneficial to install a battery.

If you are generating excess power during sunlight hours and it is being fed back to the grid, but you then need to purchase electricity for use after dark, a battery could be beneficial as you can store the power generated during the day for use at night. We will help you to decide if a battery is right for you.

What brand of battery should I use and why?

We are Enphase & Tesla Powerwall approved installers.

The Enphase IQ battery fits seamlessly into the solar systems that we recommend ie those using Enphase micro-inverters. It is a 5kw capacity and you can install multiple batteries on your system to suit your storage needs.

Tesla are true innovators. The Tesla Powerwall is a brand you can trust. It has 12kw storage capacity.

Will my solar power work during a black out/power outage?

No it does not – for safety reasons it switches off and will restart once the Network power is up and running. If you need a system that supplies power during a power outage you will need to add a battery with back up facility to your solar system. This will allow for essential circuits such as fridges, alarms and medical equipment to continue running for a period of time.

Can I use solar power for a property/site that is not attached to the power grid?

Yes you can! Good Day Electrical are an approved and certified off grid solar design & installer – we can guide you along the way to build an off grid system that works for you and your own needs.

Does my solar system need any maintenance?

Your system will generally run trouble free. Good Day Electrical offer an annual solar inspection where we will review the performance data of your system in order to make any recommendations or enhancements that you may benefit from and then conduct the following physical checks:

  • Check for any visual deterioration
  • Inspect junction boxes to ensure they are sealed and offering maximum protection for wiring etc
  • Verify integrity of any conduits
  • Check all connections
  • Take electrical voltage & current measurements
  • Check protective devices ie fuses. RCD's isolation device
  • Check integrity of mount system and bolts to ensure panels are secure
